So we are able to be spoiled for 7 days. All the food is FREE....since you or your parents have spent all that money on this cruise....

....be adventurous and try some new food that you have never had before.

Cruise Tip #5 - Tick Tock....it is almost time to leave the Dock

Time flies.....and soon we will be as well

Packing tips?

Disney has a good list. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/myCruise/landing?name=WhatToPackDetailPage

Additionally, I would suggest:
  • Sunglasses - bring two ... as you may lose a pair
  • Sunglass neck straps
  • Black sneakers that has no blazing logos and hence you do not have to pack your dress shoes ...they will blend right in...well for the guys anyways :)
  • Sandals for the shore excusions....you're sneakers will get wet !!
  • a small water tight container to hold you $$ if everyone is doing water sports such as snokelling.
  • A small waist pack....and maybe one that is a bit larger than the personal ones; hence not everyone needs to carry one.....but take personal ones just in case.
  • a bottle of something in your luggage to have a drink before supper...if our rooms are too small we can all meet in Murray and Rita's room ??

Cruise Tip #4 - Wonderful Shopping

What to buy...and where?

Remember - They expect you to haggle...do not pay the sticker price !!

St. Maarten/St Martin - Designer Clothing & More

Front Street in Philipsburg, St. Maarten - This web site tells it all about the Dutch side http://www.st-maarten.com/tb/shopping.htm

Marigot, St. Martin - I am told that one can acquire Designer clothes at reasonable prices. Many Paris designer use this oasis as their place to get away and do some work...so you might even bump into one of them. http://www.geographia.com/st-martin/smact01.htm#shopping

St. Thomas - Jewelry and Liquor
Jewelry & Watches - This is the place to get jewelry and watches at very good prices. Certain items can be discounted 50%. If you are thinking about acquiring a piece, I would suggest that you spend 20 minutes in a Canadian store to have a reference price. As the ship will tell you, only shop at their sanctioned stores as if it is a fake, the ship will give you back your money. Also the ship sanctioned stores typically give you a free gift or an option to by a heavily discounted item.

Liquor - A wonderful experience, however, you can quickly catch a buzz based on their free samples. I had some Tequila that was so smooth you could drink it straight....and I am not a bug fan of it, but I bought a bottle :)

On the Ship - Cruise Memorabilia
Obviously this is the place to get your cruise shirt or hat. A lot of cruises has "gold by the inch", keep in mind that it is costume jewelry.

I'm betting you are looking for a Mickey something....myself... I'm after Goofy !!

Cruise Tip #3 - Passports and other loose ends

Passports - everyone needs one including the kids. Check your expiry date and renew now if required.

Final Payment - The final payment date is July 14, 2008. partial payments can be made, contact John

Cabin Assignments - They will not tell you the cabin you have been assigned until closer to the sailing date

Flights - When the cruise lines book air transportation, they have a block seats but they do not assign names to seats until after final payments have been made. A point to remember is that Disney includes transfers in the price of the air transportation. The trip from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral is over and hour and with the transfers, all of the luggage etc is looked after.

Meal times - All of our reservations are linked together. We have requested the early sitting

Cruise Tip #2 - You get personal Bulters for a week !!

During the cruise the following 2 people will become an extended part of your family:

- Dining Room Server
- Stateroom Attendant

Additionally, there is the Dining Room Assistant Server & Dining Room Head Server to help to ensure things go smoothly.

As like all other cruise lines, the above staff depend on your gratuities as part of their salary. So how much would you pay for excellent service in a restaurant?

Disney suggests the following per day (per person staying in a cabin):

$25.75 - Dining Room Server
$18.75 - Dining Room Assistant Server
$6.50 - Dining Room Head Server
$25.25 - Stateroom Attendant

Total for the week is US$76.25 per person. So a family of 4, the total is approx $300.

You are under no obligation to align to the suggested amount. However, our experience has been that your main server and room attendant are just fabulous and definitely deserve the tips.

To think about it in another way .... What would tip a waiter in a superb restaurant for having breakfast, lunch and supper everyday? If you do the math based on this scenario, I think you will see that the above numbers are reasonable.

For Bar Service, a gratuity of 15% is automatically added to the bill. This is standard practice across the cruise industry.

Count and save your pennies....and enjoy your personal butlers for a whole week !!

Cruise Tip #1 - Port of Call - Shore Excursions

A. Should I plan on sleeping in ?- Definitely Not...unless you are not taking any excursions
- It may take 15 minutes to walk the length of the dock to the area where your bus, taxi, etc
- They normally leave around 9am...ship doors are opened at 8am

B. Do they feed you?
- Assume they do not....and bring something
- Check the excursion description to see if lunch is included or available for purchase...if not, you better bring a snack

C. How much do they cost?- Average adult price is about $60 per person. Child rates are approx 25% cheaper.
- Budget for the adult price as the age definition of child can be unexpected (e.g. older than 10 is an adult !!)
- If it sounds exotic, the price will align to the description.. (excluding golf at $189)
***St. Maarten - most expensive (scuba) = $90, least expensive (island tour) $22
***St. Thomas - most expensive(fishing) = $94, least expensive (butterflies) $15

D. How long are the excursions?
- on average, they are about 3.5 hours which includes travel time via bus, taxi, etc.

E. What about doing a non Cruise sanction excursion that I find on the internet?
- You can.....but...
*** you have no recourse if you are not satisfied with your adventure
*** if you miss the boat, you are on your own and Disney will not help you to get to the next port of call

F. Should I rent a car or scooter?
- my advice is NO....- they drive on the wrong side of the road !!
- you're only in port for 8 hours....let someone else drive and enjoy the scenary
- i believe you can rent a taxi for all day long for like $25....just do not pay them in full up front.
- Check that they speak English....Ask them how much snow they got last week....if they say Yes...take different one
